Why should you vote this year? Because this year, Congressional Nominee Jody Hice said that Muslims in the United States do not deserve first amendment rights. Because in one recent election, one neighborhood was able to sway the vote and take out a long-standing incumbent. Because this year, political candidates are making false claims about Islam and Muslims. Because these politicians influence our lives. Because our politicians represent us. Because our voices must be heard. Because there are hundreds of thousands of Muslims in Georgia who can sway the election. Because when issues that are very dear to us arise, we need someone in the Capitol who will lend an ear.
That is why last year, a few local leaders came together and formed I-PAC (Independent Political Action Committee) Georgia. I-PAC encouraged Muslims to register to vote and to get to know their political candidates. Although it is still a new group, I-PAC has already had a luncheon with Attorney General Samuel Olens and created an event with one-on-one questions and answers with Governor Nominee Jason Carter and the representative of U.S. Senator Nominee Michelle Nunn. I-PAC Georgia had face-to-face time with individuals who could very possibly become the leaders of Georgia, who can influence public policy, and affect our day-to-day lives.
Together, we can make a difference. That is why thousands of Muslims all of Georgia are going to the polls early this year, on Friday, October 31st. We will make a difference. We will be at the polls. We will cast our vote. Will you?
