2020 has been a year of challenges. We have all witnessed the recent tragedies of Amaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, George Floyd and more; our Atlanta community and beyond continues to suffer from systemic racism which is dividing hearts. This division of hearts also impacts our Atlanta Muslim community where we have developed a lack of understanding between the different races which hampers our potential in being contributing members to society.

To follow the hadith of the Prophet (peace be upon him): “The Muslims in their mutual love, kindness and compassion are like the human body where when one of its parts is in agony the entire body feels the pain, both in sleeplessness and fever.” (Bukhari and Muslim).

We need to unify hearts to ensure we are one community, one body, ONE HEART!

To counter these challenges, the Islamic Speakers Bureau of Atlanta has launched the One Heart Initiative.

What is the One Heart Initiative?
The One Heart Initiative seeks to create an environment where Atlanta Muslim leaders can forge bonds of brotherhood/sisterhood and mutual respect by better understanding our histories and biases with a goal of dismantling racism and amplifying harmony to build a better community.

One Heart Program Overview:
The One Heart Initiative is a 3 month program based on universal Islamic values that bring out the tough discussions between leaders of different ethnicity and races in an effort to identify areas of improvement, unity of purpose and a call to action.

As part of this initiative we would like to gather information on how we all connect with our community and experiences of racism. This is an anonymous survey and your input will help us a great deal on our initiative.
