In recent news, you may have heard snippets of what people have been talking about in regards to the caravan trying to cross the U.S.-Mexican border. You may have encountered some people being outraged at the fact that tear gas was used against innocent families who came to seek asylum in the U.S. Here is a brief explanation about everything that has occurred over the past few days concerning the events that took place at the U.S.-Mexican border.

The caravan, a group comprising of approximately 4,000 Hondurans and Guatemalans, has been traveling to the U.S. in hopes of seeking asylum from their countries where violence and poverty are prevalent. The caravan has been traveling for weeks, and after finally arriving in Tijuana, a large city in Mexico in which many migrants go through to cross the U.S-Mexico border, they were met Border Patrol agents who used tear gas and rubber bullets to keep the migrants from crossing the border.

Despite it being legal for people to seek asylum in the U.S., the Border Patrol agents reacted in such a horrifying way towards these migrants that had spent the last few weeks hoping to escape some of the violence, crime, and poverty in their own countries. Many people are outraged at the fact that such action was taken, and rightfully so. The migrants in the caravan were simply seeking asylum from the issues in their countries and were hoping to lead a better life in the U.S., only to be met with tear gas and rubber bullets being used against them.

While it may be disheartening to hear such news, these migrants were innocent people looking for a better place to live and unfortunately, were only met with violence and it is important to be knowledgeable about the struggles that people are facing in order to gain a better understanding of these issues that affect these people in need. It is important to be informed of what happens inside and outside of this country. While some people may dismiss these things and say that such issues don’t concern them as they are not being affected, it is crucial to realize that understanding what happens surrounding these events will allow you to keep an open mind and stay updated on significant events that concern whole groups of people worldwide
