On Saturday, September 12th, a day of free dental care called Community of Smiles took place for those in need. Dr. Nooredin Nurani, the owner of Center for Cosmetic and Sedation Dentistry in Lawrenceville, hosted the event. More than 120 volunteers including 23 dentists – 6 of whom are Muslim, dental hygienists, assistants and others donated their time to give back to the community.
A total of 249 patients, many of whom camped out in line overnight, were seen through Community of Smiles. Whether they were out of a job, did not have dental insurance, or did not have means to afford dental care otherwise, this was a day for them to receive some of the services they needed.
The services provided included preventive and pain-relieving procedures such as cleanings, fillings, and extractions. Over 270 procedures were performed, totaling more than $86,000. One of the volunteer dentists, Dr. Waheed Malik expressed, “Seeing how happy and grateful the patients were brought so much joy to my heart.”
