Financial Tip #4: Constantly Worship Allah

Many good deeds, including some of the ways to maximize your earnings, are purely optional. If you do them, they are good for you. If you don’t do them, no harm comes to you. You do what you can with the right intentions but you don’t burn yourself out.

Allah has given us mercy in that there are so many different voluntary ways for us to increase our earnings. We have discussed three of them so far, but imagine how difficult life would be if there was only one way to do so. That is a mercy many overlook.

The fourth way to increase your earnings is to constantly worship Allah, striving for the hereafter.

Constantly worshipping Allah doesn’t mean that you stay in the masjid all day and pray all night, abandoning your duties to your family and business.

You should not abandon all worldly affairs and worldly efforts.  What is meant by constant worship is that a person is always conscious of his or her worship.  A true believer does not let family or business come in the way of worship. Be humble and attentive during your acts of worship by realizing the greatness of the One being worshipped.

Like when the Prophet (PBUH) said, "…worship Allah as though you see Him, for even if you do not see Him, He sees you."*

Realize that the concept of worship in Islam is not limited to a few physical acts, such as prostration and recitation. Every single act, if done for the sake of Allah, becomes an act of worship.

For example, if a person leaves his home to earn some money through permissible means in order to feed his family, this is an act of worship. When one studies a profession intending to earn halal income, then this studying becomes an act of worship. When a mother takes care of her family intending to do her best in raising strong pious Muslims, then all acts such as cooking, cleaning, buying clothes for the family become acts of worship.

Abu Hurayah stated that the Prophet PBUH) said, "Allah says, 'O Son of Adam! Take time out to constantly worship me, I will fill your chest with richness and remove your poverty. And if you do not do so, I will make your hands filled with occupation, and will not remove your poverty" **

Lessons:

  • Those who worship Allah constantly will be rewarded by having their hearts filled with richness & poverty removed.

  • Such people will not depend on others to supply their needs and Allah will cover up their condition, supplying them with rizq.

  • On the contrary, if a person does not take the time out to worship Allah, Allah will punish them by making him very busy (fill your hands with chores) by constantly working

  • Despite all the hard work, because his work is deprived of Allah's blessing, he will not be able to cover up his poverty and will depend on people.

Reflect on this hadith because it is so true. When you take a look around and observe how many people are grinding it out day in and day out, their efforts are of no use to them because they take no time to worship Allah.
