On  Sunday, June 22, Nasir Al-Amin (MSW) visited the Madina Institute U.S.A to conduct a workshop cosponsored with Muslim Wellness Foundation-Atlanta on Mind Over Mood: Essentials for Emotional Self-Care. The workshop covered CBT (Cognitive Behavior Therapy) and was a three hour workshop. Nasir spoke about challenges individuals face on a day-to-day basis in the form of an "Inner Critic" who seeks to undermine one's peace of mind. He also mentioned how individuals who may seemingly look happy on the outside may be waging a strong battle between the Inner Critic in themselves.

The workshop also had a survey of participants which covered common Inner Critic dialogues that occur with individuals that are self-criticial and negative in nature. The survey findings were not suprising according to Nasir and reflected that most if not all the participants are dealing with an Inner Critic and some of the negative thoughts are common and not that hard to find in individuals. Nasir also spoke about the use of CBT to treat depression, suicide, and anxiety. He mentioned how CBT is a powerful tool which can empower one to control one's thoughts, state of mind and focus. He also mentioned how some of his clients don't really need therapy or counseling but simply need someone to help them train their thoughts.

Nasir mentioned that the battle with one's Inner Critic is a daily task and requires practice every day to learn how to deal with one's Inner Critic.
