Al-Farooq Masjid has started a few new initiatives to help reverts (those who embrace Islam as adults, after having been raised in or practicing a different faith system).

The first program is to establish a "Buddy System" where volunteers will be paired with a revert based on location (in order to make any potential meetings easier). Al-Farooq Masjid's goal is to collaborate with other masajid and Islamic organizations in Atlanta on a Buddy System that will help new reverts regardless of where they take Shahadah. Al-Farooq Masjid is co-ordinating volunteers to assist with this program. Though volunteers will not be expected to make large time commitments. they would be required to volunteer a few minutes every other week to make a single phone call from home. Al-Farooq will conduct a short 'Volunteer Training Session' in the future to provide sensitivity training and basic knowledge on how to help new Muslims. Additionally, anyone accepting Islam can contact Al-Farooq and they can assign a trained volunteer to help the new Muslim in their journey to Islam. Volunteers can sign up here.

The second initiative is a social event, organized at regular intervals, for new reverts to interact with older, active reverts and other members within the Atlanta Muslim community. These 'New Muslim Hangouts' are places where reverts can get together to share their experiences and gain support, help and guidance from other Muslims. The first social event is being held at Karachi Broast and Grill (Burger Joint) this coming Sunday, June 16 at noon. The address for Karachi Broast is: 5775 Jimmy Carter Blvd, Suite 180, Norcross, GA 30071.

The third initiative is to create 'Shahadah Packets' for those people accepting Islam. These packets contain basic essentials such as a Qur'an, prayer mat, kufi/hijab, booklets on how to pray salah and the five pillars, an Islamic Calendar etc. Also, classes to teach new reverts on how to read Qur'an and to educate them on the basics of Islam are also in the works.
