Khurram Baig: The only way to combat Islamaphobia is for Muslims to become more active in the community
According to the United Nations, 'Over the past four years, 8,832 civilians have been killed in the conflict with civilian deaths increasing each year.' The American Friends Service Committee's (AFSC) current project Windows and Mirrors is a traveling mural exhibit that memorializes the lives of civilians lost in Afghanistan and urges an end to the violence. The exhibit came to Atlanta on Aug. 25 and will remain until tomorrow, Sept. 21 when there will be a closing ceremony at the King Center in Atlanta along with a film titled 'War and the Rise of Violence Among Youth.'

Asad Abdulla from Emory MSA, M. Khurram Baig from the Georgia Association of Muslim Lawyers and Jiway Tung from AFSC Indonesia. All of the speakers had passionate insight into the nature and ways of combatting Islamophobia, particularly Baig. His main message was that Islamophobia, along with all prejudice, is mainly caused by people not understanding each other. Thus, the only way to combat it is for Muslims to become more active in the community. Audience members also participated with questions and comments of their own.
