Job Description

Language Arts and Reading teacher at Al-Furqan Academy shall be responsible for creating a classroom environment that develops in each student skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing that are fundamental to effective communication and literacy. He/she also shall develop appreciation of good literature of all types including Islamic material; that motivates students to read widely for information and recreation; that develops standards for critical judgment of written and oral communications transmitted by mass media; and that discovers and develops special talents of students in the field of English to prepare each student to meet Al-Furqan Academy’s academic standards.
Each language arts and reading teacher is required to perform the following duties:
1. Plan and implement student-centered Language Arts and Reading lessons based on Al-Furqan standards.
2. Create engaging lessons that develop student’s critical thinking and problem solving skills.
3. Strive to ensure the success of all students.
4. Continually assess student progress toward mastery of standards and keep students and parents well informed of student progress by collecting and tracking data, providing daily feedback and weekly assessments.
5. Provide necessary accommodations and modifications for growth and success of all students.
6. Attend all staff meetings and designated school functions outside of school hours.
7. Work with grade level team to address and resolve student issues.

REQUIREMENTS:

1. US experience teaching elementary and junior high level classes in Reading, Literature and Language Arts.
2. Minimum bachelor degree in English and Literature.
3. Ability to create a classroom environment that develops in each student skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing that are fundamental to effective communication and literacy.
4. In depth knowledge of Language Arts concepts such as phonics, articulation, etc.
5. Experience developing annual and unit lesson plans.
