What Is A Doula?

The word ‘doula’ (pronounced ‘doo-la’) is a Greek word meaning ‘woman servant’. More recently, it refers to someone who offers emotional and physical support to a woman and her partner before, during and after childbirth. A doula (also known as a birth attendant) believes in ‘mothering the mother’, enabling a woman to have the most satisfying experience that she can, from pregnancy and into motherhood. This type of support allows the whole family to relax and enjoy the experience too.

 

The role of a MHSI Birth Doula

Birth or Labor Doulas are trained and experienced in childbirth. They hold a very important role with families during pregnancy, labor and postpartum. Birth Doulas are trained to offer support, encouragement, information, relaxation techniques and so much more.
Mahdi Health Service Doulas are trained to possess knowledge and awareness of female physiology, however a doula does not support the mother in a medical role.

Includes a Three, Four day or Eight week workshop, complimentary Business Start-up class, Doula Mastery Workbooks, Mentored Training, American Heart Association HeartSavers Certification and Membership. This class is great for stay at home moms or those with flexible schedules.
