Event Description

VEILS tells the story of two female students living in Egypt during the "Arab Spring." Intisar is an African-American Muslim studying her religion during a semester abroad. Samar is an Egyptian citizen who loves Western culture. They forge an instant friendship, discussing their differences freely: most notably that Intisar chooses to wear a veil to express her faith, and Samar does not. But with the "Arab Spring" come riots, violence, fear, and division, all of which threaten to tear the friends apart.

This is the regional premiere of VEILS. It was written by Tom Coash.

The American Theatre Critics Association (ATCA) selected VEILS as one of six finalists for the Harold and Mimi Steinberg/American Theatre Critics Association New Play Award, and awarded VEILS the ATCA's “M. Elizabeth Osborn Award” for Best New Play by an Emerging Playwright!
