What
Shades of White, a worldwide peace and family strengthening initiative, was founded in 2009 by Qasim ibn Ali Khan, of Houston, Texas.

The World Health Organization (WHO) reports that currently, of the estimated 200,000.000 orphaned children worldwide, nearly 150,000 documented orphans are right here in the United States. In spite of the many American families who are adopting children, the number of children without permanent homes continue to increase.

It is sad to also note that most of these orphans have reached the age of puberty, as most adoptive parents seem to gravitate towards infants and toddlers, a choice that may very well be indirectly connected to the rise in crime in the inner cities of America, as too many adolescent orphans grow into adulthood and react to a complex of feeling unwanted and expendable.

In an effort to respond to this, Shades of White is about to launch "Operation Orphans Rights", an initiative aimed at serving notice to America that all citizens, particularly those of civic influence should immediately begin to more actively promote the institution of adoption and foster care in preparation for adoption of homeless children of all ages. "Operation Orphans Rights" also promotes the linking of the families who have the finances but dont have the time...with the families who have the time, but dont have the finances.

Various faith based and civic leaders are banding together for the official launch of this critical campaign to raise public awareness, and put the orphans of America in the front of our minds. Most people are not aware that November was National Adoption Month. This official announcement and launch will be by way of simultaneous news conferences in several cities throughout America, on Friday, December 9, 2011, 10:00 a.m. local time.

For Atlanta, Georgia, the news conference with former Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney will take place at Masjid Muminun, 1127 Hank Aaron Drive, Atlanta, 30315

Some of the additional invited speakers include Mayor Kasim Reed, President Jimmy Carter, Shaykh Daoud Bojang of Center for Islamic Counseling and Guidance, Imam Nadim Ali, and several other representatives of various faith based traditions.
