This Ramadan, members of the Atlanta Muslim community are bringing a unique fundraising idea to your Facebook feed. Similar to initiatives in Houston and New Jersey, the Online Ramadan Charity Dessert Auction will serve as a way to raise money for local charities while engaging people with fresh baked desserts.
The event was a success in both Houston and New Jersey, and now it’s flourishing in Atlanta. Aisha Yaqoob, the main organizer for the Online Charity Dessert Auction, stated: “I saw my friends in Houston doing this last Ramadan and wanted to bring it to Atlanta. When they started going at it again this year, I figured, why not?”
How does this work?
Everyday for a week, a local baker’s dessert is featured on the Facebook page, pricing and pictures included. The desserts are open to bidding via comments, and at the 24 hour mark, the person with the highest bid wins! 100% of the winning bid will go to the charity of the day. All desserts are freshly made-to-order, and winners can often customize them.
Proceeds will go to these local charities:
Somali American Community Center
Who are the bakers?
All local, Atlanta Muslim bakers who offered to donate their amazing baked goods and yummy desserts.
Ramadan so often becomes about over thinking our next meal and socializing. Let’s use this initiative to take that challenge and turn it into an opportunity for good deeds. Be sure to join the event page here to start bidding!
