Personal stories can been a powerful catalyst for change – challenging stereotypes, building bridges, and inspiring action. In a country as diverse and complex as America, our identities as Muslim Americans are as layered as they are contested. We all have stories to tell: stories that deserve to be collected, conserved, and celebrated.

The Muslim American Leadership Alliance (MALA) is a civil rights organization committed to promoting individual freedom and celebrating Muslim-American heritage. We invite you to submit your story to be featured as part of our “Muslim American Journeys,” a MALA program produced in partnership with NPR’s StoryCorps and the Library of Congress, providing a platform for Americans of Muslim heritage to share their individual stories. By sharing a diverse range of narratives and experiences, “Journeys” aims to document history, inspire pride, and celebrate individuality.

StoryCorps’ mission is to preserve and share humanity’s stories in order to build connections between people and create a more just and compassionate world.

We do this to remind one another of our shared humanity, to strengthen and build the connections between people, to teach the value of listening, and to weave into the fabric of our culture the understanding that everyone’s story matters. At the same time, we are creating an invaluable archive for future generations.

MALA’s motto is “Elevate Y/our Journey”

  • Journey: Our identities are constantly unfolding as we make choices and define ourselves.

  • Y/Our: Because individual progress is linked to community progress – and vice versa – we come together while respecting individuality.

  • Elevate: Because values define our journeys and choices have consequences, we strive to do better and achieve meaningful impact.

We invite the Atlanta Muslim community to share their story with us! Your voice and narrative counts. Submissions can be sent to info@MALAnational.org along with a headshot, or click here.
