Do you have a closeted desire to become a photographer? Looking to take it to next level beyond the little point and shoot digital cameras? But the new DSLR cameras look too daunting to use? Or did you make the plunge and purchase a DSLR but can't shoot beyond the automatic setting? Well, have no fear, folks!

There are some really great short term classes to take advantage of and learn how to shoot your new Canon (yay!), Nikon, Sony, or whatever brand camera you have. Sometimes Bestbuy will have a free 2-hour class to explain the camera basic settings. Also, if you are a Groupon-er, you will often find a one weekend class offered for a great deal. Personally, I am a fan of The Showcase School of Photography located on Cheshire Bridge Road. I have been taking classes there for almost 2 years.

Showcase offers beginner classes (DSLR 101) to very specific and advanced topics (shooting landscapes, kids, using flash, Photoshop, etc) and everything in between. The classes are taught by professional photographers who honed his / her skills at various prestigious photography programs. The instructors can help students improve their ability to take better pictures regardless of what brand of camera they use.

The classes are typically six weeks long that meet once a week for about 2 hours. Showcase offers flexible timings. The price for most of the classes is usually less than $200 for the six-week session. In addition, they also have some fun, one-day workshops to take pictures in unique environments and offer useful tips shooting in dynamic settings for approximately $25 to $100, depending on workshop type. The classes and workshops are taught with the students in mind (no exams, no obnoxious group projects, and no boring instructors).

So, if you are thinking of taking up photography and want some expert guidance, I highly recommend taking advantage of The Showcase School. Just get out there and start taking pictures!
